I keep forgetting how much I can into Scott Westerfield's books ~_~ they're addicting, but I always hate the endings....or at least just extremely disappointed w/ the endings.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is about a little boy whose dad is like a Nazi officer and his family has to move from Berlin to Poland, next to a concentration camp. I can't really say more without giving it away ^__^; It's written quite well, and it's a different sort of book. I don't know if you'd like it, but I did.

The Book Thief...eep how do I explain this. Well, it's a book narrated by Death, basically following events in the life of a girl named Liesel - the "Book Thief." Also takes place before/during World War II, has a lot about nazis and such.
Here's the summary I found online, but I don't like the way it makes the book sound.

Quote:

It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist – books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau. This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

I've wanted to read "The Book Thief" for a while, but could never find an English version when it came out (as I wasn't living in an English speaking country -.-) and now I'm just too lazy to look for it. =X

Has anyone read The Time Traveller's Wife?

It's awesome. =3

Well, there's this time traveller (our sarcastic, witty protagonist) who can't control his time travelling tendencies. The whole book is really about the relationship of him and his wife (and their lives) - whom he first met when she was 6, and he first met when he was 28. It's written in sort of a diary format where you're given the date, and then what happened from one of their POVs.

I guess that sounds sort of tedious - just an autobiography of some time-travelling dude. But it's not ><;

Extremely rereadable and I just love it. Putting things together after you read the whole book is a great feeling. =3 ::)

If you liked the Time Traveller's Wife, read umm... this one short story... "The Dandelion Girl" by Robert F. Young.

Just because it sounds a little similar plotwise.. But not really. It's just there's the time traveling going on. xD And I liked it. xD

Roflll Heather. By th way, what's the book about and who's it by? =O

Oh, that somehow reminded me of Pan's Labyrinthe... which was just wayy too graphic. Well, I was actually too scared to look at the bits where people got tortured... But I assume it was pretty graphic. x_X

At Panda's suggestion, I did go read "The Dandelion Girl". ;D It was...well, the word I first thought of was sweet. I like it, too. ;3 Funny how time can make things so complicated.

Another time-travelling related one. It's humourous, though. xD

Hm. The commenters' made it sound better, but I wouldn't expect much from the book now. XD Though it still has a chance of being better than that movie... But it came after, so it's based on the movie.

Oh, it's also out of print. =/
Hmm...

But the details are:
Labyrinth: A Novel
by A.C.H. Smith
Henry Holt, and Co.
1986

But, hey, people painstakingly took the time to type it out so we can read it online. Enjoy!

I LOVED Pan's Labyrinth. ahaha :c

I planned on having The Book Thief finished by today but I left my bookbag in my friend's brother's truck, so I didn't get to finish it. and it was due today, so now I have to pay late fees.

I keep hearing about a book called "The Hunger Games". Anyone read it? I want to go check it out but I still haven't read the Neil Gaiman books I got over winter break omg I need to take a chill pill this summer and just -read- xD

I started Good Omens but only got 10 pages in before class started >___> But since it's Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, two guys I looooove, hopefully I'll finish it faster than American Gods, haha. ^^;

I want to get Neverwhere sometime too. I have the DVDs from the British miniseries but I want to save them until after I read the book.

argh, what were the books I read over the summer...?

I think "A Lesson Before Dying" (I freaking wept ;___;), "Devil in the White City" (omg, I love it, but probably only b/c I'm a history freak...?), and "Brisngr" (which was a definite come back from the second book in the Eragon series :3).
